Once again, this year’s edition of Canada’s most famous horse race offers bettors a great mix of impressive favorites, live longshots, and other interesting hopefuls.
Let’s take a shot at making some money on The King’s Plate with a trio of wagers.
Bet #1
$5 exactor box (Total $10) – #5 Midnight Mascot and #3 Essex Serpent
The Reason:
My Boy Prince will rightfully go off as the favorite, but his two stablemates each possess the ability to come up with big efforts in the 1 ¼-mile classic. Dual hall of fame trainer Mark Casse, who has three Plate wins to his name, has three excellent chances to make it a fourth. Let’s see if we can get this pair across the wire one-two.

$10 win on #5 Midnight Mascot
The Reason:
He finished third to stablemate Essex Serpent in the Grade 3 Marine Stakes last time out, but this consistent son of Army Mule (he has hit the board seven times in eight tries) could be sitting on the race of his life on Saturday.
Bet #3
$5 show on #2 Rafaroo
The Reason:
This son of Hard Spun rallied nicely last time out in the Plate Trial to finish second to My Boy Prince. With some longer runway to utilize in the Plate, the Harold Ladouceur trainee could bring some late energy to the proceedings.
